How to compare two PDF documents

  1. Choose two documents

Pick the older and the newer version from your documents, or upload them. They can be two different files or two versions of the same one.

  2. Let PDFZyro find the changes

The comparison runs in the background, so you can keep working. Long documents are fine: it handles up to 500 pages.

  3. Review and download the report

Step through each difference with the two versions side by side, then download a report that lists every change.

What the comparison finds

  • Text changes

Words and sentences that were added, deleted or changed, highlighted in both versions so you can read them in context.

  • Formatting changes

Text that changed font, size or style, which matters in contracts where a clause can be made to look less important.

  • Pages and pictures

Pages that were added, removed or moved, and pictures that changed, including a visual check of page pairs for drawings and scans.

  • A report to share

Download a report of every difference to send to a colleague, a client or your lawyer.

  • Works with versions you already have

Compare any two PDFs, or two versions of a document you edited in PDFZyro, where every save is kept as a version.

Private by design

  • Encrypted and private

Every file is encrypted before it's stored, and only you and the people you share with can open it.

  • Your original stays safe

Every change is saved as a new version. The original is never changed, and you can restore it at any time.

  • No watermarks

Files you save never get a watermark, on any plan, including the free one.

  • Works in your browser

Nothing to install. Use it on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Questions and answers

How do I compare two PDF files?

Open Compare in PDFZyro, choose the original and the revised PDF, and start the comparison. When it's done you see the two documents side by side with every difference marked, and a list you can step through.

Can I compare scanned PDFs?

Yes. The visual comparison checks the pages as pictures, so it also finds changes in scans and drawings. To compare the words of a scan, make it searchable first with OCR.

How long are comparisons kept?

Comparison results are kept for 30 days so you can come back to them, and you can delete them sooner. The documents themselves stay in your library until you delete them.

Is comparing PDFs private?

Yes. Your documents are encrypted when stored and only you can open them and their comparisons. Nothing is shared unless you share it.

Is Compare PDF free?

Yes. Compare PDF isn't counted towards the Free plan's daily tasks, so you can use it as much as you like with files up to 50 MB. Pro adds unlimited edit, convert, compress and OCR tasks and more storage, and is free to try for 7 days.
