How to add pages to a PDF
To add pages to a PDF, open it in a tool that can organize pages, choose to insert a blank page or pages from another PDF, put them where they belong and save. To add a whole document to the end of another, merging the two files does the same job in one step. Either way, you don't need the original Word file.
This guide shows how to insert blank pages and pages from another PDF, how to add scans, photos and Word pages, how to merge PDFs, and the other ways to do it on a Mac or with Adobe Acrobat.

How to add pages to a PDF in PDFZyro
- Open Organize pages on the Home page and choose the PDF from your documents, or upload it. If the document is already open, click Organize pages.
- Click the page the new pages should follow. If no page is selected, new pages go at the end.
- Click Insert pages in the toolbar and choose Blank page or Pages from another PDF….
- A blank page is added straight after the selected page, the same size as the page before it. Choose it again to add more.
- For pages from another PDF, pick the document From my documents or Upload a PDF. Type the Pages to insert, for example 1-3, 5, 8-, choose Where (After the selected page, At the start or At the end) and click Insert.
- Drag pages into the right order if needed, or use Alt and the arrow keys, and rotate any that are sideways.
- Click Save. The document with its new pages is saved as a new version, and the earlier version stays in the history.
Adding a whole PDF: merge instead
Insert when you're adding a few pages into a document and want to keep its history in one place. Merge when you're joining whole documents end to end and want to keep each original as it is.
- Open Merge on the Home page.
- Add the PDFs from your documents, or upload them. You can combine up to 50 files at once.
- Drag the files into the order they should appear, or use the up and down buttons.
- Type a name for the merged document if you like, then click the Merge button, which shows how many files you're combining.
- PDFZyro makes a new document in the same folder as the first file, with a bookmark for each file you merged. Click Open the merged document. The original files haven't changed.
Adding a scan, a photo or a Word page
Insert pages and Merge work with PDFs. To add a photo, a scanned picture or pages from Word, turn them into a PDF first:
- Pictures (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, TIFF or BMP): open Images to PDF on the Home page, choose the page size (A4, Letter, Legal or Same as picture), the orientation and the margin, and convert. The new PDF is added to your documents.
- Word, Excel or PowerPoint files: open Office to PDF on the Home page and convert them.
- Then add their pages with Insert pages, Pages from another PDF…, choosing them From my documents, or merge them.
- Only want a small picture on an existing page, not a new page? Use Add picture in Edit PDF instead.
Other ways to add pages to a PDF
Browser PDF viewers in Chrome, Edge and Firefox can show and print a PDF but can't add pages to it, and printing to PDF only saves the pages that are already there.
- Preview on a Mac: show the thumbnails (View, then Thumbnails) and select the page the new one should follow. Then choose Edit, then Insert, then Page from File or Blank Page. You can also drag another PDF into the thumbnail sidebar.
- Adobe Acrobat: the paid version's Organize Pages tool can insert blank pages and pages from other files. The free Acrobat Reader can't add pages.
- Word, Google Docs or another word processor: if you still have the original document, add the pages there and save it as a PDF again.
Tips for adding pages
- Add pages before you number them. Page numbers and Bates numbers don't update themselves, so number the document last.
- Check the page size. Pages from another PDF keep their own size, so an A4 page in a Letter document looks slightly different. Select it and use Resize… in Organize pages to match the others.
- A password-protected PDF can't be organized or inserted until its password is removed. If you know the password, use Remove password first.
- Add pages before signing. Changing a signed PDF means its digital signature no longer covers the new version.
- Undo and Redo work until you save, and Discard throws away changes you haven't saved.
Duplicating, moving and removing pages
Organize pages does more than add pages. To repeat a page, such as a form you need twice, select it and click Duplicate (Ctrl+D). To move pages, drag them, or select them and use Move to position… to type where they go. Delete removes the selected pages, and Crop… and Resize… change their size.
All of these changes are saved together as one new version when you click Save, so you can add, reorder and tidy a document in one go.
